Without weapons, but not defenseless

– Social defence

Against the background of the current war of attack in Ukraine and the question of alternatives to war, we offered on Wednesday, 25. May, a Online event on "Social Defence" on. Social defense is a concept of non-violent resistance that a society should successfully protect against a military robbery from outside but also against a violent coup from inside.

Dietrich Becker-Hinrichs (Chairman of the Board of Management of the Workshop) began an introduction to the concept of social defence with exciting examples from history. Afterwards, Christoph Besemer (former main official of the workshop) presented examples of non-violent resistance in Ukraine and addressed the question of what is now to be done so that the war in Ukraine can soon be ended. Subsequently, the more than 40 participants discussed in small groups and exchanged the most important findings in a final round. The event was moderated by Sara Fromm (main office of the workshop).
